Capt. Marvin W. Short's Obituary
The honorable Captain Marvin W. “Cres.83” Short passed away at the age of 62, on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at his home in Lacombe, LA.
He was survived by his sister Marcia Barto, his three sons Darren, Travis and Jeremy Short, one grandson Tristen Short and nephew Brian Coate. For those who loved him, we are so very thankful for the many Fond memories he left with us and the gratitude we feel is not enough for all the things he taught us and did for us. His legend lives on thru the generations left behind and those yet to come, thru his words of wisdom, his generous gestures and mostly thru those silly little lymrics that he learned from his father “Captain Alvin Short”. Our hats are off in honor of you Captain Short. We love you and will miss you dearly. We’ll see you in heaven buddy.
Captain Short’s last requests were to be cremated and his remains be placed at his camp in Alabama. He also asked that we do not have services but rather sit down and have a cocktail in memory of him and reminisce of the “good-ole’ days”.
CAPTAIN O Captain my Captain our fearful trip is done. The ship has weathered every rack; the prize we sought is won. The port is near, the bells I hear, fellow mates exulting. While eager eyes steady the keel, the vessel grim and daring. Where on the deck has my Captain gone? Like a lighthouse along the shore, Sending gleams across the waves. My poor fainting struggling seaman, I try to rescue and save Dark is the night, as the angry billows roar. Eager eyes watching, longing for the lights along the shore. Trim your feeble lamp my brother Some poor sailor tempest tossed, trying now to make the harbor In the darkness he may be lost. O Captain my Captain rise up and hear the bells. Rise up- for you the flag is hung, For you the bugle trills, For you bouquets of ribboned wreaths, For you the shores crowding, For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning. My Captain answers not for his lips has fallen still. The ship is anchored safe and sound, It’s voyage closed and done. From fearful trip, The victor ship comes in with object won. Exulted shores and bells that toll. But I, with mournful tread walk the deck my Captain once strolled.
