Brian P. Flynn's Obituary
Brian P. Flynn July 16, 1958 - February 5, 2026.
Brian was known for his smile, never meeting a stranger, and for always finding a reason to laugh, even up to the very end. Therefore, he would be very upset if I, the author, took this too seriously. So, here we go:
The man, the myth, the legend passed away peacefully in his sleep after an exhausting battle with multiple melanoma on the afternoon of February 5, 2026. The icon spent his final moments surrounded by family, his daughter’s dog, Buddy, and several loving staff members of Lacombe Nursing Centre.
Born in New Orleans on July 16, 1958, to Joyce Picou Flynn and John Michael Flynn, Jr. (“Jack”), the mythical 6’ 2” king of dad jokes, a.k.a. “Brian,” spent a majority of his youth in New Orleans, Louisiana. Uniquely, he graduated from Rockwell College, a high school in Tipperary, Ireland, in 1976. While attending Rockwell College, Brian started the school’s first basketball team, and the school has maintained its basketball team to this day.
Just like his grandfather, who was featured in Ripley’s “Believe It or Not!” for having held more jobs in his life than most, Brian was a man who wore many hats (literally and figuratively). He spent his career in a number of industries including photography, music, massage therapy, management of several plant nurseries, diving, construction, and healthcare. At the time of his retirement, Brian was a certified nursing assistant and paraprofessional working with adolescents at Northlake Behavioral Health (formerly Southeast Louisiana Hospital).
On September 12, 1987, Brian (the great) married the love of his life, Logan, and on August 22, 1988, his legacy was continued by the birth of his daughter, their only child, Mallory.
Brian loved fishing and music almost as much as he loved his family (possibly more, but the author is biased). In his final years, he enjoyed going fishing with his brother-in-law, Nicky Parr.
The late king of dad jokes is preceded in death by his parents: Joyce P. Flynn and John Michael Flynn, Jr.; his sister: Mary F. Campo; his brother-in-law: Nick Campo; Tupac; Elvis; and Marilyn Monroe. His royal highness of fatherly puns is survived by his wife: Logan B. Flynn; his daughter: Mallory B. Flynn (and Mallory’s dog, Buddy); and his cat, Lellow. He is also survived by his siblings: Diana Flynn Breen; Kathleen Fresko (Emannuel Fresko); Patricia Parr (Nick “Nicky” Parr); Kevin Flynn (Pam Flynn); and John Michael Flynn, III (Cathy Flynn). Brian is also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews, who will be listed by first name in the interest of brevity, because the author is lazy, and because none of them have slain a legitimate dragon (author reserves the right to amend this section in the event that changes): Bonnie, Billy, Bridget, Patrick, Sean, Ryan, Devin, Anthony, Kelly, Brendan, Brady, Bailey, Evan, Anita, John, and Matthew. His royal highness is not survived by any of his enemies (because he never had any).
For family and close friends, a small, informal celebration of life will be held on February 28, 2026, at the home of Brian’s brother, Kevin Flynn. Please wear what you want; he hated formal events. For information, and to RSVP, please email his daughter, Mallory: [email protected].
His daughter, Mallory, will be arranging a larger gathering for extended friends and sketchy relatives—that she never knew existed but who want to come out of the shadows—at a time, date, and location TBD. Contact her via email [email protected] for details.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to Louisiana State Parks (https://www.lastateparks.com/make-a-donation) in his royal highness’ most esteemed honor (i.e., in his name).
Final arrangements for Brian have been made by the loving, dedicated, and amazing professionals of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home. The family is truly grateful for their outstanding service and focus on maintaining Brian’s dignity in the end.
The family would like to thank the loving staff and administrators of Lacombe Nursing Centre, Harmony Hospice, E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, and the few nurses of the St. Tammany Parish Hospital Oncology Unit who worked tirelessly to give Brian a chance in the end. Thank you, truly.
