Barbara "Betty" Butler Plummer's Obituary
Barbara “Betty” Butler Plummer, at the age of 88, entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 12, 2026. She was born on September 25, 1937, in New Orleans, Louisiana and was a life-long resident of St. Tammany Parish.
She is survived by her children, Cyrus “Rusty” Plummer, Barbara Lynn Manton (Ronald) and John Lewis Plummer (Tiffany); six grandchildren, Cynthia Guttuso, G.J. Guttuso (Andrea), Rebecca “Becky” Plummer, Justin Plummer (Ally), Cole Plummer (Jo), and Cyrus Plummer; and eleven great-grandchildren, Zach Cole, Logan Callahan, Chandler Callahan, Ethan Guttuso, Josie Mae Guttuso, Trent Buckley, Clayton Buckley, Ava Buckley, Isabelle Cox, Silas Plummer, and Jace Plummer. She is also survived by her siblings, Jean Fauntleroy (Leroy), Butch Butler (Karen), and William “Bill” Butler (Jeffrea); a host of nieces and nephews; and wonderful lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Cyrus W. Plummer; her parents, Bruce Butler, and June Sandifer Butler; and daughter-in-law, Lori L. Plummer.
She retired from Covington Elementary School after 25 years of dedicated service as the school secretary, where she was affectionately known as “Mrs. Betty.” A passionate community member, she was deeply involved with the Covington Garden Club for many years, including serving as its president, and was an accomplished Master Gardener. She also played an active role in the St. Tammany Parish Fair Association, where her artistic talent was recognized when her work was selected as the official artwork for the 2012 St. Tammany Parish Fair. In 2013, she received a Mayor’s Letter of Recognition from Mayor Mike Cooper in honor of the Covington Bicentennial.
A woman of strong faith, she attended Church of the King for over 20 years and was blessed with the opportunity to participate on a mission trip to Africa and to visit Israel. She had a creative spirit, enjoyed painting, and cherished spending time playing cards with her friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will take place privately at a later date.
