Dear ones,
You have been carrying this loss for a long time, and I imagine today holds a complicated kind of grief — one that started long before now. I hope it brings some comfort to know that even after so many decades, Betty’s spirit and impact have stayed with me, clear as daylight.
My most vivid childhood memory of Betty is her voice — gentle, tender, and reassuring. She had a quiet way of balancing the energy around her, even when surrounded by bigger personalities. She never demanded attention. She just held things together.
Maya Angelou wrote, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Betty made me feel safe, loved, and included. Being in her presence felt like a warm embrace. I aspire to have that sort of impact in my own lifetime, and grateful to have her as a lamplighter on the path.
