Barbara Elaine Brewster's Obituary
Barbara Elaine Brewster, 73, of Folsom, LA, passed away November 26th of 2021.
She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 21, 1948 and preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Hyder F. and Ruby P. Brewster. Barbara attended St. Martin’s Protestant Episcopal School, Metairie LA, being very proud of being a 13 year attendee (K-12), received a MA in Education from Sweet Briar College, Lynchburg, VA , and completed a MSW from University of Louisville (KY).
Barbara is survived by her two children, Pritchett Deters (Garvin) of Asheville, North Carolina and Brewster Miller (Elizabeth) of Louisville, Kentucky. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Ellie Miller and Winston Miller of Louisville, Kentucky. Barbara is also survived by her younger brother Gary (Cathy).
Barbara was an accomplished horse woman, caring mother, passionate educator and dedicated social worker. Barbara worked as an elementary and middle school teacher in the cities of Falls Church, VA, Louisville, KY, New Orleans, LA, and Bogalusa, LA. She served the Kentucky communities of Jefferson County and Henry County as a social worker. Barbara loved riding horses in rural Kentucky, reading on the beach in Santa Rosa, FL, and visiting with childhood friends, especially her STM buddies, at her favorite places in New Orleans. She will be remembered for her love of nature and animals, her passion for learning, and her reverence of life.
There will be small private graveside ceremony for family members and close friends on December 17, 2021 at 2:30 PM at the Brewster plot at Metairie Cemetery. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Best Friends Animal Society or to the New Orleans SPCA.
