In 1983 I was very fortunate to be blessed with the greatest of friends, Toni Salvaggio-Trosclair. I was further blessed to of known and been loved by Toni’s mother, Lena Salvaggio. During my first pregnancy with my eldest daughter I lived in New Orleans and did not have any family near. Toni, her mother, Lena, her sister Susan made all the difference in my life. Not only did Lena, treat me as her own daughter and shower me with every love and gift a pregnant mother could imagine. Lena stood by with me on the phone when I thought I may be in labor to give me every advice. Not only did they throw me the sweetest baby shower ever, but Lena made me a winter jacket and scarf. Lena made all my baby room items from wall-hangings to sheets to baby carrier. She made me the most beautiful pink laced basinet also. She sewed the sheets, pillow, bumper and comforter for my baby’s crib all in care bears. Toni actually brought over a small luggage and packed my hospital bag and cleaned my apartment for me (I was not much of a cleaner back then). While in the hospital after delivery of my beautiful baby girl, Jade Maria, Lena brought me Parents magazines, a Doctor Spock book, the best homemade chocolate peanut butter balls and nursing bras. Jade was born on Susan’s birthday, December 14th, 1984. Toni brought over the most beautiful little Christmas tree with colored lights. I don’t think I ever to this day have been embraced so lovingly by a family. I would love if Lena could stay here on earth with us longer, at least until I could see her again. She entered into eternal Glory yesterday evening. I am ever grateful for the love that made me feel worthy. I know you are resting in perfect peace.
