Andrea Hughes Mayer's Obituary
Andrea Hughes Mayer, age 81, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026. She was born on July 13, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
She is survived by her loving husband, Emmett J. “Ike” Mayer Jr., with whom she enjoyed 60 years of marriage; children, Emmett J. Mayer III (Jennifer) and Erin Mayer Haupt (Mitchell); grandchildren, Katherine Haupt, Evan Mayer, Jake Mayer, Bailey Haupt, and Sarah Mayer. She is also survived by her sister, Janell H. Nunez; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Samuel Hughes and Catherine Springer Hughes.
Andrea grew up in the Bywater Neighborhood in New Orleans and graduated from The Academy of the Holy Angels. A devout practicing Catholic throughout her life, Andrea worked as cafeteria manager for the Archdiocese of New Orleans schools Sacred Heart Academy and The Academy of the Holy Angels. She later worked for the State of Louisiana as an accounting technician in the teacher’s retirement system.
Andrea enjoyed crocheting, shopping, traveling, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Additionally, she maintained many lifelong friendships, including many that began in her youth. She was also a fabulous cook and expressed her love by preparing meals for her friends and family. A family recipe book that she compiled will be on display at her memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Mayer may be made to a charity of your choice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow in the adjacent Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
