Alma Joyce McNeely Tidball's Obituary
A. Joyce McNeely Tidball passed away peacefully on October 18 at the age of 90. Joyce was born in New Orleans, LA on April 7, 1933 to Agnes and John Norris McNeely Jr.
Joyce is survived by her siblings, Perry McNeely, Ann McNeely Hibbett, and Martha McNeely Romo, (Ed).
Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings, John Norris McNeely III, Kathleen Josephine McNeely, Godfrey Charles McNeely, and Vaneska McNeely
A native of Covington and longtime resident of Pierre, South Dakota, Joyce graduated from Covington High School, in 1951 as the Salutatorian. After high school she enlisted in the Air Force for 3 years where she met and married her first husband, Dr. George Levin. After moving to Ohio, they both went on to earn their PHD. They later moved to South Dakota where Joyce was the State Director of Curriculum and Instruction. After losing her loving husband of 46 years, she later went on to become the First Lady of Fort Pierre, South Dakota when she married the Mayor, Sam Tidball. They were married until his passing in 2014. Joyce then moved back home to Covington, LA.
After retiring from her career in education, she received her real estate license and sold real estate at Fischer Rounds and Associates. Joyce was one the founding members of The Oahe Yacht Club and went on to serve as one of their Commodores. She was well known for many of her talents, singing, dancing, hosting amazing parties and was usually seen wearing red to match her hair. Throughout her lifetime, she had a deep love of animals. She owned horses, dogs, cats, and any stray that needed a home.
Joyce’s loved ones express their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by Passive Hospice and Avanti Senior Living.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joyce can be made to the Big Sky Cares (Community Animal Resources and Educational Services) at 82060 Highway 25, Folsom Louisiana.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at St. Peter Catholic Church, Covington, LA 70433 on October 28 with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 with the Mass beginning at 11:00.
