Aldridge L. “Red” McMurray, Jr. passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2009.
Beloved father of Amy M. Huerta and her husband Alfredo; loving grandfather to Adela Huerta; brother of Mildred M. Sherburne and her husband Richard and Betsy Ann M. Murphey and her husband John; special friends, Nina Barnett, Frank Hanna and Thekla Hanna; and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Mae Trudell McMurray; and his father, Aldridge L. McMurray, Sr.
Age 75 years, he was a native of Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Folsom, LA for the past 29 years. He was a 1952 graduate of Baton Rouge High School and attended LSU prior to serving honorably in the United States Army. An accomplished horse owner and breeder for over 50 years, he began his career working with Quarter horses then moved into Thoroughbreds. His career as an owner and breeder included such horses as “Comet Jr.”, NCHA Hall of Fame Delta; Louisiana 2 year old of the year “Charlie Branch B” and his latest “Mr. Sulu” which he won TOBA Breeder of the year in 2004. “Red” will be missed by all who knew him.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
The family would like to specially thank all who helped comfort Red during his final days.
