Yvonne "Evie" Broussard Warren's Obituary
Yvonne "Evie" Eugenie Broussard Warren passed away on Friday, December 17, 2022, at the age 82. Beloved wife of 50 years to Jerome “Jerry” Warren; loving mother to Helen Warren Bartholomew, Justin Warren, Matthew Warren, David Warren, Lesa Warren Henry, and Patrick Warren; daughter of the late Helen Bertel Broussard and Olivier Joseph Broussard Jr.; grandmother of Celia Justo Dearie, Tyler Justo, Leah Bartholomew, Emily Bartholomew, Morgan Henry, Connor Henry, Kyle Truxillo, Michelle Monistere, Gabriela Starkey, Katelynn Dorsa, and Eric Warren; and great-grandmother of Jerome and Aubrey Dearie Sister of Olivier (Bruce) Broussard, Numa (Bert) Bertel Broussard, and Richard Leo Broussard.
Evie was born and lived in Rayne, Louisiana until she was 14 years old. She moved to New Orleans and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, after which she continued her education at Loyola University New Orleans, receiving her degree in Education with a math concentration. She married Jerry in 1964 and they soon had 3 children in New Orleans, then in 1968 moved to Puerto Rico where they had 3 more children. In 1975 they returned to the US to live in Oklahoma for 8 years, then settled down for the last time in Mandeville in 1983.
Evie taught math at Mandeville Junior High School for 20 years; she often shared memories of the friendships she developed while teaching, and for the rest of her life she could not go anywhere in Mandeville without a former student recognizing and telling her what a great teacher she was.
Evie was passionate about sports and was a soccer referee, coach, volleyball coach, and basketball scorekeeper at Mandeville Junior High and Pelican Park. In 1986 she was part of a volunteer group that would eventually be responsible for building what is now Pelican Park.
Evie and Jerry retired to sail on their boat and enjoy their grandchildren. Jerry passed in 2015, and Evie remained active for the rest of her years traveling, playing bridge, and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She passed away at the home she shared with Jerry and her kids for the last 38 years, with her children at her side. Evie will be remembered fondly by all who knew her as an adoring partner to the love of her life Jerry, the best junior high math teacher in living memory, and, above all, a loving mother to her 6 children who grieve her passing from this earth.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 N Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA, at 12 noon on Saturday, December 31. Visitation at the church begins at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses and prayers in memory of Evie.
