William Jensen's Obituary
Captain William Jensen passed away on July 24, 2013, age 94, at The Trace Assisted/Independent Living Center, in Covington.
His wife, Mary Clark Jensen, preceded him in death.
The “Captain” was born of Norwegian decent and sailed to America at a young age and became an American Citizen. He served the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Marine Inspection, from 1941-1944, and the United States Coast Guard, Merchant Marine from 1944-1958. During those years, he was decorated with the Merchant Marine Emblem, Mediterranean Middle East War Zone Bar, Presidential Testimonial Letter, Pacific War Zone Bar, Atlantic War Zone Bar Victory Medal, Combat Bar and Honorable Service Button.
His civilian life was committed to maritime related businesses in New Orleans, cities in South America and in Oslo Norway. He also was a partner in businesses with his brothers in Oslo, Norway.
He was a wonderful gentleman, husband, brother, seaman and friend. Special thanks to his many good friends, his fellow residents at The Trace, and the staffs at The Trace and Lakeshore Hospice for supporting, helping and enjoying him. His special friend Glenda Vickers, his extended family member, Kylin Ajubita, and his family in Norway, will dearly miss him.
A Memorial Service was held at The Trace.
His ashes will be scattered on the Mississippi River.
