When Mr. Montgomery was first campaigning for D.A., I encountered him at a fund raising event. He reached into his pocket to get his business card to give to me, his "money clip" was a plain black binder clip like you'd find in your office desk drawer. I commented that he needed a fancier money clip and we shared a good laugh. After he was elected District Attorney, I found a "gold" binder clip in my desk drawer, wrote him a note of congratulations, and mailed the card and the gold binder clip to him, explaining now that he was D.A. this better suited him. Months later, I ran into him again at another event, and without a word, he went into his pocket and proudly showed me his new fancy money clip. This happened several times, each time I ran in to him, without prompting. It makes me smile to know that a small, simple gesture meant as much to him as it does to me. Rest in peace, Mr. Montgomery. Prayers of peace and comfort to the Montgomery family and his 22nd JDC family.
