Vera shared with me her deep and abiding love for Emile and Rosie's father, and how he remained alive forever in her heart. I know the deep pain of loss felt now by you all is so terribly acute. I had the pleasure of getting to live next door to Ms. Vera 25 years ago. Although my husband and I only lived there for 1 1/2 years before being transferred to Georgia, we spent many afternoons talking and laughing on the front porch. She was a funny, kind and faithful person that I grew to love. As a newlywed, she shared good advice and of course great recipes! I am so fortunate to have known her.

Aunt Vera was one of the most kind and gentle souls. She truly made my Uncle Emile a happy man. Growing up I remember being at their home for Fourth of July celebrations, Mardi Gras parades, and the occasional Saturday evening visit. She made some of the best Italian food in New Orleans. Two weeks ago my mother and I had lunch with Aunt Vera, Rose, and Emile. She looked great and I believe we all throughly enjoyed the visit. I didn't expect it to be our last visit with Aunt Vera, however; for a final visit, it was absolutely wonderful! My heart aches for Rose and Emile and their families. However, I find comfort in knowing she is pain free and reunited with Uncle Emily in Heaven.
