Venus Belhasen Ward's Obituary
Venus Belhasen Ward, 84, of Covington, LA, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2005 after a short illness. The daughter of Sarah and Charles Belhasen, she was born on April 7, 1921 in Iaeger, West Virginia, and also lived in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut before moving to Corpus Christi, TX. She lived in Corpus Christi for 50 years before moving to Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, and then she spent the last year of her life in Covington, LA. Mrs. Ward was a budget analyst for the Naval Air Station and worked there for over 22 years before retiring in 1977. She was a member of International Toastmistress Clubs and won several speech contests and was a frequent writer of “Letters to the Editor” of the Corpus Christi Caller – Times for many years. Mrs. Ward was honored by the Caller-Times for her letter-writing with a luncheon and special award in the mis-1980s. She was also active in the Christian Women’s Club and the Lost Pet Hotline in Corpus Christi. Mrs. Ward leaves behind several family members including her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Berry D. Ward and Lynette Ward of Covington, LA, her daughter and son-in-law, Andra Ward Haney and Gary Haney of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX. Survivors also include her grandson and his wife, Gregory A. and Sarah Ward of Abita Springs, LA, granddaughters Karen Ward Dale of Covington, LA, Tara C. Haney and Elyse J. Haney of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, her sister, Mrs. Mary Kimball of Canyon Lake, TX, and her brothers Ronald Belhasen, Dr. Franklin K. Belhasen, and Charles Keith Belhasen, of Paintsville, KY, as well as eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Ward; son, Harry Webster Ward; sisters, Inez G. Leach and Josephine B. Stacks; and brothers Hassan C. Belhasen, Fred M. Belhasen, and Robert L. Belhasen. There will be a Memorial Service in early April in Boerne, Texas.
