Van Dalton Jenkins, Sr.'s Obituary
Van Dalton Jenkins, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Covington, LA. Born in Colbert, GA, Van lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by devotion to family.
Van was the beloved husband of the late Martha Sue Hardigree Jenkins, with whom he shared 63 cherished years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Van D. Jenkins, Jr. (Barbara), Jennifer Jenkins Leddy (widowed by Billy), and Julie Jenkins Authement (Bruce). Van was proud of his grandchildren: Nicholas Authement (Sabri), Ashley Authement Wolf (Blake), Jacob Authement (Elizabeth), Mary Levey (Meg), Michael Leddy, Rebecca Leddy, and Dagmar Jenkins. He also adored his great-grandchildren, Callen Wolf, Oakley Authement, and the late Ophelia Authement. Van’s love and respect for his children and grandchildren were boundless, and he was cherished in return.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Sue Hardigree Jenkins; his parents, Rachel Mildred Burt Jenkins and Dalton Jenkins; and his sibling, Burt Shepard.
A proud graduate of the University of Georgia, Van went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he embarked on a distinguished 38-year career with the Centers for Disease Control, relocating his family over a dozen times before retiring to their beloved home in Folsom, LA.
Van’s work ethic was legendary, and even in his 90s, he could be found tending his garden with care and devotion. His passion for life extended to his leisure time, where he enjoyed playing cards with family, reminiscing about the “good ol’ days,” and cheering fervently for his Georgia Bulldogs as their most spirited geriatric fan.
Above all, Van was a steadfast provider, a supportive presence, and a true friend to his three children and grandchildren. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Van will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
