Troy H. Gist's Obituary
Troy H. Gist on Tuesday July 4, 2006. Beloved husband of Norma O’ Banion Gist. Father of Kanola J. Gist. Brother of J.L. Gist, Eugene F. Gist, Jo Ann Zuniga and Janis Warden. Son of the late Washie Gist and Maude Lewis Gist. Age 86 years, a native of Bigheart, OK, grew up in Wetutmka, OK before attending business college in Chillicothe, MO. From there he took a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. Mr. Gist attended Columbus University while working with the F.B.I. He received his appointment as a Special Agent with the F.B.I. in 1943. His law enforcement career was briefly interrupted by his service in both the Military Police and Military Intelligence with the United States Army. Mr. Gist returned to full duty with the bureau assigned to the field office in Washington, D.C. for 9 years, 3 years in Oklahoma City and 3 years in Tulsa, OK. He was transferred to the New Orleans office where he ended his career as Senior Resident Special Agent in Covington, LA in 1974. Highlights of Special Agent Gist’s career include his work in the prosecution of Jimmy Hoffa and was a key witness in his trail; and the apprehension of kidnapper and murderer Joseph Francis Bryan, Jr. Special Agent Gist received several commendations from F.B.I. Director J. Edgar Hoover during his 33 plus years of service. Interment services will be in Clear Creek Cemetery in Clear Creek, Missouri at a later date.
