Thomas Edward "Sonny" Lindsey's Obituary
Thomas Edward “Sonny” Lindsey, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 24, 2022, after fighting the good fight for 88 years.
Sonny was born in Troy, Alabama on May 25, 1934. Sonny graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, Montgomery, AL. He married Margaret “Margie” Knox Lindsey on June 21, 1958 and they were married for 55 years.
Directly out of high school, Sonny began working at an entry level position with American Telephone & Telegraph Company, Long Lines Division. One month after beginning his career, Sonny was drafted by the U.S. Army. AT&T fortunately held his position and Sonny returned to work after his military service for the next 34 years.
Sonny and Margie began their journey in Montgomery, Alabama and through his career with AT&T, moved their family to Meridian, MS, Shreveport, LA, Memphis, TN, Brewton, AL, Atlanta, GA, and Kenner, LA. They enjoyed their retirement years in Pass Christian, MS, and were joined there by many life-long friends they made along the way. Post Hurricane Katrina they made their life with their children in Mandeville, Louisiana.
Sonny and Margie acquired, successfully operated and immensely enjoyed owning Poydras Frame and Art Center for 13 years. Countless numbers of family and friends also enjoyed “The Shop” during Mardi Gras, as it was a fun place to be.
Sonny and Margie created a life of pure joy for not only their family but for all who were lucky enough to cross their paths. Their home was always open to everyone, with food and drink flowing and extreme generosity. Laughter and love abounded!
Sonny is the loving father of three surviving children, Laurie Jane Lindsey Waddell (Gregg), Timothy Edward Lindsey (Karen) and Leigh Ann Lindsey Freshley; 6 grandchildren, Brittany Waddell Dyer (Evan), Ashley Waddell Smith (Michael), Abby Marie Lindsey, Miles Vincent Lindsey, Margaret “Maggie” Lindsey Freshley and Mary Callie Freshley; 7 great-grandchildren, Oudrey Jules Gros IV, Brooklyn Jane Pace, Myles Michael Smith, Aubrey Elise Guidry, Avery Marie Pace, Reed Evan Dyer and Alaina Elizabeth Smith.
Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Margie” Knox Lindsey, his mother, Mary Callie “Nanny” Ammons Lindsey and his sister, Doris Lindsey Norsworthy.
In lieu of flowers, Sonny would want you to spend time with your family, take them out to dinner and have fun!
A private, graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022. A celebration of Sonny’s life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Robert Louis Freshley for his love and care of Sonny. We would also like to thank Tania Levi, M.D. and staff for the special care and support.
Arrangements are entrusted to E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc. of Covington, LA. Please sign the online guest book at www.ejfieldingfh.com.
