Thomas James Inguagiato's Obituary
Thomas James Inguagiato, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Avanti Senior Living in Covington, LA following a lengthy illness. He was born in New Orleans on November 5, 1944 to Samuel Joseph Inguagiato and Jeanne Marie Robichaux Inguagiato of Harvey, LA.
Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Stephanie Hartley Inguagiato; his children, Thomas James, Jr. “Scooter” and his fiancée Amber, Helana Sue Badeaux and her husband Shannon, John Paul and his wife, Melissa, and Rochelle Bivalacqua, his “heart” daughter. He is also survived by his sister Ellen and her husband Charles Olivier and many nieces and nephews.
Tom dearly loved and was so proud of his five grandchildren, Devin John and Dylan Paul Inguagiato, active US Marines, and his granddaughters, The Badeaux girls, Alianna, Lilia and Marielle.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, his sister Catherine Inguagiato Miller and his brother, Roy Inguagiato.
During his high school years, Tom worked as a courier for the Times Picayune in New Orleans. He graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1962 then enlisted in the Air Force in February 1963. He served at Lowry AFB, Colorado, Travis AFB, California, where he was cleared for duty assignment involving nuclear weapons. He told us that he couldn’t tell us what he did because it was, “Top Secret!” and it was. He also put that top secret training to work in Okinawa. His final assignment, before an honorable discharge, was George AFB, California.
After returning from the Air Force, Tom hired on with AT&T Long Lines as a technician. He retired from AT&T in 1999 after 32 years of service. His interest in law enforcement led him to volunteer with the New Orleans Police Department in 1978. His favorite time with the NOPD was during Mardi Gras when he would take a week vacation from AT&T to patrol the streets of New Orleans.
Our heartfelt thanks go Passages Hospice for the care they gave Tom during his illness. The nurses and care givers who cared for Tom became our friends, whom we will always cherish. Many thanks also go to Avanti Senior Living where Tom was a resident for a year. The staff at Avanti were always friendly and welcoming and showed great concern for Tom. Some even said he was their favorite patient. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
