Thelma Jo Call Stalcup's Obituary
Thelma Jo Call Stalcup, age 90, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. She was born on February 7, 1936, in Gober, Texas, one of 10 children of Bill and Willie Williams Call. She was a graduate of Bailey High School and East Texas State University. She also studied at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas where she met and married the love of her life. They spent their 58 years of marriage in Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana.
Following college graduation Thelma spent 6 years teaching Physical Education in the Dallas and Arlington school systems.
Thelma spent five years teaching at Meadows-Draughns Business College in New Orleans then went on to be Assistant to the Headmistress at Louise S. McGehee School where she spent the last sixteen years before retirement.
Thelma’s love of sewing not only lead to a lifetime hobby but also professional dressmaking and alterations. She spent many hours making lovely quilts and wall hangings. Other hobbies included reading and playing card games with friends in the Northshore Newcomers Club. She spent many hours with the Hosana Quilters making quilts to be donated to hospitals, hospices, and other philanthropic organizations. Her quilts will be cherished by her family for many years to come. She will be dearly missed by all of her loving family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Lee Stalcup (Jackie) and David Scott Stalcup (Rhonda); grandchildren, Alexandra Paige Stalcup, Gabriel Scott Stalcup, and Amber Elizabeth Stalcup (Garrett); and great-grandson, Kieran. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Call Alexander (Donald), Retha Call Owens, and Carolyn Call Johnson (Jimmy); and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Dr. Bobby Lee Stalcup; her parents, Willie Ray Call and Willie Pettus Williams Call; and siblings, Doris Call Mackey, Imogene Call Sells, John Call, Royce Call, Loyce Call Murley, and Sophie Call Lansdell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Covington Presbyterian Church, 222 S. Jefferson Avenue, Covington, Louisiana.
