Sylvia was born to parents Robert and Elena Bledsoe in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. Before her marriage to Donald Delano Longley, she attended Sophie Newcomb Memorial College where she studied social science. Sylvia was a devoted mother to four children and spent her free time fulfilling what would be a lifetime passion for volunteer work serving the poor and needy in Orleans Parish and St. Tammany Parish. She was and outgoing gregarious person, and made friends wherever she went, including her eight years living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she also pursued volunteer work for the poor. Sylvia’s hobbies included performing in local theatre and listening to opera and classical music.
She was well known to be a voracious reader. Another passion of hers was traveling throughout Europe with close friends and taking many wonderful trips and cruises with her children and grandchildren. Sylvia was a lovely, cultured person with a beautiful smile and easy laugh who made many lifelong friends. We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives and to love her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
