Susan Knight Carter's Obituary
Susan Knight Carter, age 71, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, of Interstitial Lung Disease. She was born on February 23, 1953.
She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, James R. “Jim” Carter; beloved son, Thomas R. Carter; siblings, Patricia Donlon, William Knight (Margaret), Robert Knight (Chloe), and Bruce Knight; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Oscar Knight and Irene Driscoll Knight; and a brother-in-law, Don Donlon.
Susan attended Louisiana State University and Tulane Law School where she was a member of the Tulane Law Review and the Order of the Coif. After law school, Susan clerked for a Louisiana Supreme Court Justice before enjoying a long career as an attorney at law in the oil and gas industry. She also did volunteer work at Gran’s Attic Thrift Shoppe in Mandeville and the Maritime Museum in Madisonville.
Susan was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she taught the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) for six years. She enjoyed traveling, walking the lakefront, gardening, reading, cooking, and entertaining family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend, and she will be dearly missed by her family and community.
In accordance with Susan’s wishes, her funeral services will be private, and she will be interred at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. If you wish to honor her life with a donation, please consider a charity of your choice.
