Sonia Chalona's Obituary
On Sunday, August 28, 2022, Sonia Chalona, loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt passed away the day before her 58th wedding anniversary at the age of 78. Sonia was born on November 17, 1943, in La Ceiba, Honduras to John and Elaine Cooper.
Sonia loved tending to her numerous plants, watching hummingbirds, and she never met a stranger, but her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was an active member in her church community with letters at Airline Baptist, First Baptist Kenner, Metairie Baptist, and for the last 16 years at First Baptist Church Covington where she was always on the go with the “Merry Widows” and an active bible worship group.
Sonia was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Bert Wayne Chalona, her parents John and Elaine Cooper, and her daughter Karen Norris. Sonia is survived by her two sons, Michael (Melissa) Chalona and David (Noelle) Chalona, her grandchildren: Vivien, Haley, Abby, Niko, Isabel, Natalie, Eva, Emily, her brothers Johnny (Tisa) Cooper Jr., and Gary (Barbara) Cooper Sr., her sister Gloria (Francisco) Solorzano, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at The Chapel at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16054 Murphy Road, Covington LA on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM until service time.
