Sidney Robert Kern, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2007.
Beloved father of Sidney Robert Kern, Jr. and his wife Karen, Robert Louis Kern and his wife Christine, and Rosemary Kern Marhoffer; brother of Ellen Ello and Eunice Looney; he is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary St. Phillipe’; his father, Sidney Jerome Kern; three sisters, Althea Lee, Bobbie Sutera and Irma Dudenhefer; four brothers, Albert, Gerald, Marion and George Kern.
Age 84 years, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Mandeville, LA, he was a US Army Veteran having served during World War II in the Washington Artillery and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was involved in the automobile sales industry in and around New Orleans and owned his own automobile lot on Canal Street. He was also a contractor after Hurricane Camille, was a pilot instructor at Lakefront Airport and served as a Colonel on the Staff of Governor Earl K. Long.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448. Visitation AT THE CHURCH on Friday will begin at 9:00 AM.
Interment will follow Mass at Lakelawn Park Cemetery in Metairie, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to St. Joseph’s Abbey, Pennies for Bread, 75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA 70457.
