Sidney William Campbell, Jr.'s Obituary
Sidney William Campbell, Jr. passed away Monday, September 24, 2012. He was born March 19, 1924 in New Orleans to the late Sidney William, Sr. and Mildred Forscler Campbell and has been a resident of Metairie, Covington for the past 25 years.
The beloved husband of Jeanette Grant Campbell for 62 years, he is survived by one son, Grant W. Campbell (Cindi); his daughter, Sydney Campbell (Michael Petrosky); daughter-in-law, April Campbell; one sister, Carolyn Campbell; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Kent Campbell.
Mr. Campbell was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served Patton’s Army in the European Theatre with the 20th Armored Division Infantry which liberated the concentration camp in Dacau, Germany. After the war, he started in the construction industry around New Orleans area. He owned and operated S.W. Campbell and Son Roofing Co., undoubtedly the largest roofing contractor in New Orleans at the time and was entrusted to re-roof the St. Louis Cathedral. He branched off into several endeavors including numerous real estate investments, Campbell Cabinet Co. and Campbell Building Materials. He was a proud Mason, member of the Good Ole’ Metry Boys, the Gaylord Carnival and Social Club and the Big Easy Jazz Ambassadors.
Mr. Campbell rose from humble beginnings to a successful man in all respects. He was adored by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, employees and friends. Besides his grandchildren, his life’s passions were travel, food and music.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433.
Visiting hours will begin Saturday at 12:00 Noon.
