Shirley Joyce Herrin Wager's Obituary
Shirley Joyce Herrin Wager, was born in New Augusta, MS on June 25,1945. Her parents were the late Robert Herrin and the late Ruby Elizabeth Clark. At a young age, Shirley and her two sisters, moved to Madisonville, LA and were raised by the late John Clifton and late Ophelia Clifton. Shirley attended Madisonville Jr. High School and graduated from Covington High School. Shirley was married to the late Fenard Herbert Wager of Madisonville, LA for 58 years, before his passing in May of 2022.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Wager, her 7 grandchildren, Sharon Schech, Eric Schech (April), Gary Schech (Anna), Corey Newman, Larry Newman, Christopher Newman and Samantha Newman Gray (Dustin). Also, her 12 great-grandchildren, Emma Perry, Hayden Newman, Aubrey Newman, Ella Newman, Lila Newman, Katelyn Schech, lan Schech, Isabella Gray, Brantley Gray, Michael Gray, Zachary Gray and Barrett Schech. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Herrin and Ruby Clark, her husband, Fenard Wager, her daughter, Elizabeth Dianne Wager Newman, her sisters, Ettie Lou Gunter Jones, Jackie Herrin Baham, Dorothy Herrin Jenkins and brothers Freddie and Charlie.
Shirley began her career as a Pharmacist Technician for several years at Prescription Center in Covington, LA and continued her career at the Kmart Pharmacy in Mandeville, LA, until her retirement. Shirley was a kind and fun loving person, who knew how to have a good time and was the life of the party. She loved to dance and sing. She loved to cook, do puzzle books and spend time with her family and friends.
Shirley loved her grandchildren very much and cherished the time she had with each and every one of them. She is remembered by them all for how she spent time with them, making special memories with each one of them. They all loved her cooking and the yearly baking of Christmas cookies with her.
Family and friends are invited to attend an evening wake on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 12:00 PM with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM until the service time at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, LA. Interment to follow the funeral service at Wager Cemetery, Wager Cemetery Road, Madisonville, LA where the services will end.
