I remember so clearly the day Shirley told me that God revealed to her that she didn't have "much longer to live". She held my hand and with tears in her eyes she said, "I am not afraid of dying; I am just worried about my boys." We talked about how successful "her boys" are and how their children also have been very blessed to have her and her boys in their lives and how successful they too have become and how successful the ones still in college would soon be. To be honest I figured she was having a bad time and just "thought" God revealed that to her. Soon after, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It would be so very awesome if all of us could have that kind of revelation; warning directly from God. We could then "prepare". However, not everyone gets that opportunity.
"without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).
Shirley was always thinking of others; she was a giver. At the moment she told me of her revelation, I had driven her to St Benedict's Church to pick up a healing blanket for Andy because of his diagnosis of brain cancer. She frequently asked about him and wanted me to know that she was praying for him daily. When a young man she admired opened up his new pharmacy, knowing she was unable to get to him she asked if I could pick up a congratulations balloon but also wanted sweets for his children. Whenever I told her I was going to Texas to visit the grandkids, she wanted to give me "something - anything" to take to them. She often "hurt" because she felt she wasn't doing "enough" giving "enough". And if she felt someone was hurt by her, she tried her best to figure out what "she" had done to them instead of realizing that sometimes it was not anything she had done - it was something the other person needed to deal with within them-self. She was grateful. During her last hospital stay she wanted to personally "pay" the aide that had shown care to her. She LOVED!!!!! I will miss her prayers and her selflessness. I know that "humans" do not become angels once in Heaven as God made us differently. However, Shirley was an earthly angel to many. Shirley is truly in a better place.
The Bible talks of pearly gates and streets of gold. Although that is hard to imagine, it reminds us that heaven is far more glorious than anything we will ever know in this life. Every picture of heaven the Bible paints for us is beyond our understanding but assures us of heaven’s beauty and splendor. This world is imperfect and subject to decay, but heaven’s perfect beauty will never fade. Enjoy your reward Shirley. I love you. Paula
