Shirley Mae "Te" Keller's Obituary
Shirley Mae “Te” Scairono Keller, age 93, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024. She was born on September 10, 1931, in McDonoghville, Louisiana.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth J. Keller and Keith H. Keller; grandchildren, Kristen Keller and Kendall Keller; and great-grandchildren, Evan Michael Miller and Aaron Michael Boatright Jr. and Katherine Hartley Boatright. She is survived by her siblings, Anthony Scairono Jr., and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Herbert I. Keller; her parents, Anthony Scairono and Myrl Kass Scairono; and sibling, Gene Scairono: her son Kirt A. Keller and her granddaughter, Katherine (Katie) Keller.
Shirley was christened at St. Anthony Church, McDonoghville, La. on September 27, 1931. Her godfather was Joseph Scairono and her godmother was Mildred Demuth. Shirley attended McDonogh No. 26 Elementary School in McDonoghville and Gretna High School in Gretna. She enjoyed sports and played basketball for Gretna High. Upon graduating from high school, she worked in the Jefferson Parish Assistant District Attorney’s office and the Jefferson Parish school Board office. Shirley was a licensed Florist and worked for Calzada’s Le Petit Flower Shop and Le Grand’s Flower Shop in Gretna. Shirley married Herbert I. Keller on May 17, 1951, St. Anthony Church in McDonoghville, La.
Shirley was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts in the 1960’s. Shortly after moving to Covington, in 1980, she became interested in quilting and became an accomplished award-winning quilter; a long-time member of the St. Tammany Piecemakers and The Red Hat Society. She was also active in the Kiwanis of Covington serving as Secretary.
Shirley was a loyal and supportive wife, a conscientious and loving mother. Shirley lived her life with creativity and respect for everyone she met.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 PM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
