Shirley Pennington Faulk passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Woodruff Word Faulk, Sr. She was the mother of Woodruff Word Faulk, Jr. and Charles Stephen Faulk. She was the daughter Read Obituary
"Just because your teeth are pearly; just because your hair is curly; just because your name is Shirley -----". She took us to state volleyball championships every year and one of the ways we honored her was to write songs and sing them to her on the bus. At home she had her boys, but at school she took all the girls under wing and we loved her. Rest in peace Mrs. Faulk for a life well lived.
Mrs. Faulk was my PE teacher at SSA. She was a great teacher - very fair to all students. I appreciated her great enthusiasm for all sports. I know she will be missed.
Shirley was my high school physical education teacher at F.T.Nicholls for three years. After I graduated from college, I taught with Shirley at Abramson High School. She was the best and a great friend who taught me a lot. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Cheryl Prestenback Buchert
Dear Family, I am a graduate of St. Scholastica class of 1976. Mrs. Faulk taught me P.E. and much much more. She instilled in us the desire to work hard and play hard. She expected the best from everyone under her care. We loved her sense of humor and fairness. There was no doubt, she loved each of her students, I am proud tohave been one of them. My sincere sympathy goes out to the Faulk family as well as Mrs. June Bergeron. Mrs. Faulk was one of the sweetest, loving and caring persons I knew. I was a student of Mrs. Faulk's but also she was a dear friend and bridge player with my mother, Lynne Salter. My prayers are with you all.

I went to SSA, class of 76. I remember her well. PE was always my favorite class as far back as I can remember, and she was one of my favorite PE teachers. My best friend and I wore the same size clothes although I weighed 25 pounds more than she did. It used to really bug me until Coach Faulk explained to me how muscle weighs more than fat. I always thought she was just trying to make me feel good, but being in the medical field now, I know that what she said is true. Either way, I will always remember her for explaining that to me and making me feel better on weigh-in days. RIP Coach...
My condolences to all of Shirley's family. She will always have a special place in my thoughts and prayers as a great teacher, a good friend, and, most especially, as a wonderful woman. Her time at SSA was a gift to all of us.

I have the fondest memories of Ms. Shirley as my physical education teacher at Nicholls High School. Her cheery disposition was endearing to her many students over the years. She truly was a joy to know.
