Sherwood A. Cuyler's Obituary
Sherwood A. Cuyler passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in Covington, LA. He was born on August 21, 1921 in Weeks Island, LA to the late Russell Cuyler and Beth Weckerling Cuyler.
Sherwood was married to his beloved wife, the late Patricia Nolan Cuyler. He was the loving father of Carol Cuyler Eley (Edwin), Brian R. Cuyler (Darilyn), and Robert N. Cuyler (Sally). Sherwood was the proud grandfather of Lauren Cuyler, Kevin Cuyler (wife Erin), Benjamin Eley (wife Taylor), Collin Eley (Clare), Katie Zelenka (Clark), Zachary Cuyler and Natalie Cuyler. He was the great-grandfather of George Cuyler, Leah Eley and Benjamin Eley, Jr. He was predeceased by his brother Russell Cuyler, Jr.
and sister Shirley Douglas.
Sherwood spent his working career at New Orleans Public Service, where he was Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. He was liaison to city, state, and federal governments, navigating the intricacies of those responsibilities while maintaining impeccable integrity. He was a superb athlete for Behrman High and Tulane University where he was an all-SEC end. Sherwood was a veteran of the Army Air Force, serving during World War II. He was very involved in New Orleans civic activities including the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, the Boy Scouts, Toastmasters and board member at Methodist Hospital. He was a member of the Hermes and Rex carnival organizations, as well as a member of Metairie County Club.
Sherwood loved his wife Pat, his children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren; he
touched the lives of all he knew. His family particularly wants to thank the many healthcare workers who assisted Sherwood and Pat.
Relatives and friends are invited to the E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 for visitation from 12-2pm, with a mass to follow at 2PM.
