Sharon Ann House's Obituary
Sharon Van Riper House passed away peacefully at 93 years old, surrounded by her family on July 8th in Mandeville, Louisiana.
Sharon was born on March 1, 1933 in Detroit , Michigan to late Susan McCardle and Norman Van Riper. She was the only daughter along with her younger brother Norman. She went to Visitation High School and later graduated from secretary school where she went on to work at General Motors for many years.
She started a family and had 4 children. Sharon and her family moved out of Detroit in 1969 and relocated across a few different southern states over the years, including Florida, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
In 1983, Sharon moved to Mandeville, Louisiana where she later worked at Southeast Louisiana State hospital. Sharon joined the Pontchartrain Yacht Club and met her late husband and love of her life Arthur House. They were happily married until Arthur passed in 2005.
In 2007, Sharon’s daughter Jeanne, along with her two daughters Darcy and Tess, moved to Mandeville just across the street from Sharon on the same cul de sac.
While she often proclaimed how she was blessed by her grandchildren, it should be emphasized how her grandchildren were truly blessed by her. Sharon always cherished and embodied her role as their beloved grandmother.
Sharon was the life of the party and always knew how to have a good time. She loved listening to New Orleans jazz music, dancing, and playing the piano. She loved interior design and fashion, being known in her community for her assorted linen outfits. She adored going out with her girlfriends to the yacht club, as well as attending live shows at the Dew Drop Jazz Hall and the Mandeville Trail head.
Sharon House will always be remembered as one of the most loving, tenderhearted and passionate (as well as dramatic) Irish Catholics of Mandeville, Louisiana, her beloved home of over 40 years.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Jeanne MacFarland and two sons Michael Farrell and Brian Farrell. She is survived by 5 grandchildren; Darcy, Tess, Carter, Matthew, and Emily.
She is preceded in death by her son Kevin Farrell, her husband Arthur House, and her brother Norman Van Riper.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Saint Jude Children’s Research hospital in order to honor Sharon’s eternal love for children.
Sharon will have a dedicated masse at Our Lady of the Lake on a later date.
