Sara Reynolds Macaluso's Obituary
Sara “Sally” R. Scott Macaluso, retired Executive Secretary of the late Rev. Father Thomas E. Chambers, C.S.C., Ph.D., former President of Our Lady of Holy Cross College, died peacefully surrounded by her loving children and family on April 5th. She was 93 years old.
Sally was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, lived in Algiers, Louisiana for 50 years and a resident of Abita Springs, Louisiana since August 2007. She was feisty, independent, adventurous, compassionate, caring and always herself, with a sense of humor that carried her through some tough times. She attended Academy of the Sacred Heart, Grosse Pointe, Michigan, a graduate of Dominican High School, Detroit, Michigan, and attended Detroit Commercial College.
She was a member of Welcome Neighbors, New Orleans, Louisiana, American Society of Italian Heritage (Northshore), The Retired Army Lunch Group, a parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Covington, Louisiana and a former parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church of Algiers, Louisiana.
Sally was the beloved wife of the late George H. Scott by first marriage and is survived by Colonel (Ret) Joseph N. Macaluso, Sr. Ph.D. by second marriage.
She is the mother of Jeffrey W. Scott (Roxanne), Michael J. Scott (Suzi), Timothy J. Scott (Evelyn), Kathleen A. Scott Kotch (Greg), Paul A. Scott (Darlene) and Maureen E. Scott; stepmother of Dr. Joseph N. Macaluso, Jr. (Renee); grandmother “Nana” of Kelly E. Scott Murch (Trent), Brandon W. Scott (Ashley), Rachel R. Scott, Joseph George Scott, Matthew B. Kotch, and George Paul Scott.
She was the great grandmother “Nana”, to Norah E., Stella E., Henry G., and Greenleigh R. Murch, and Dillon W. Scott; and step grandmother to Christina M. Hammock (Chris), Elizabeth M. Barrabee (Matthew), Emily Frances Macaluso, Jody Perlmutter, Clement Goldberg, and Ryan J. Rasco (Chelsie). She was the step great-grand “Nana” of Sophia R., Julia M., and Connor H. Hammock, Luke J. and Nicholas M. Barrabee, and Hailey M., Zachary J., and Brooklyn M. Rasco.
Sally was the daughter of the late John Anthony Reynolds Sr. and the late Mildred Malloy Reynolds, sister of the late Mary Barbara Reynolds Terry of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, the late John (Jack) A. Reynolds Jr. of Santa Fe, New Mexico, the late James Larry Reynolds of Midland, Michigan, and Dennis Michael Reynolds of Saint Claire Shores, Michigan. Sister-in-law of the late Sydney L. Terry, the late Ethel Reynolds, Mary Lou Reynolds, the late Epifanio (Ephen) J. Macaluso, the late Vera Macaluso, and the late Nicholas J. Macaluso, Jr. (Anne). Sally is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred; alternatively, donations may be offered to the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans (Algiers), the Hospice Foundation of America, or the Adrian Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan.
Due to COVID-19, social distancing is encouraged and masks are required to attend services.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 East 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday April 13, 2021 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Monday April 12, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday April 13, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 125 East 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433. Burial to follow at 1:30 PM in Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue Biloxi, MS 39531.
