I am so sorry to hear of the tragic death of Ruth. She was such an inspirational leader for the RCIA Program at St. Peter's Parish. I met Ruth in 1993 when I began my journey to become Catholic. For many months Ruth provided my class with personal stories about her devotion to The Blessed Mother - Mary. Ruth's devotion to the Catholic Faith and her personal stories made me yearn for our Wednesday night RCIA classes.
When I became Catholic, Ruth bought everyone in the class a Catholic Bible with our name engraved on its cover. She wrote a personal note inside my Bible that read, "I am so proud of you for completing the requirements of the RCIA program. You have only just begun your Spiritual, Catholic journey. May your commitment to love and serve Our Father never fade. You will always find peace in reading scripture. So, when you find yourself in turbulent times, mediate on scripture to rejuvenate your Catholic faith." I will always cherish the Bible and the note she left me.
A year later, she invited me to speak to her RCIA class to tell my story about why I wanted to become Catholic. She wanted me to tell the class why my life felt incomplete until I became Catholic. I was honored to speak to her class that night. May Ruth’s family find peace from the people she inspired. While no one deserves the ending she had on this Earth – I find peace in knowing that she is with our Lord. What a great job she did on Earth preparing herself for Eternal Life. Rest in peace, Ruth – your job on Earth is now complete.
