Ruth "Dixie" Jeffries' Obituary
Ruth “Dixie” Jeffries passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the age of 79 after a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. Beloved wife of 56 years to James Thomas Jeffries. Loving mother of Jonathan Wayne Jeffries and Jennifer Ruth Jeffries Clarke (Byron) and the late James Arthur Jeffries. Daughter of the late Ruth Wemple Arthur and Richard Simmons Arthur. Sister of Richard Wemple Arthur (Judy) and the late Peggy Arthur Norton. Grandmother of Bradford James Clarke and Connor West Clarke and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating with a BSN, RN from Simmons College in 1961 she embarked on a 30+ year career that began at Spahn Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX and concluded at Jo Ellen Smith Hospital in Algiers, LA.
Dixie loved her family and friends and was quick to make new ones. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling and her pool. One of her many talents included motivating her husband to plant a garden and to share its produce and roses with everyone. She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church, D.A.R., New Comers, Lunch Bunch and Sharp Needles Quilters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 335 Asbury Dr., Mandeville, LA 70448 on Friday, February 23, 2018. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service at church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Dixie to be made to the church.
