Ruth Iris Schech Dickens' Obituary
Ruth Iris Schech Dickens, age 89, of Waldheim, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. She was born on July 21, 1934, in Waldheim, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles V. Dickens; son, Lesley T. Dickens; parents, Joseph I. Schech and Caty Dutsch Schech; son-in-law, Jesse H. Allen; two brothers; six sisters; and a host of extended family members.
She is survived by her children, Charles W. Dickens and Esther D. Allen; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Mrs. Ruth was the youngest daughter of nine children in the Schech family of the Waldheim Community. She graduated from Covington High School and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches where she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing. She worked for many years as a registered nurse before retiring from the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport in 1983. Throughout her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, and camping. She loved spending time with her family, including her dogs, cats, siblings, children, and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 3:00 PM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM.
