Katherine Holliman
My grandfather died a year ago yesterday, the day after my birthday.
I spoke to him for the first (and last) time as an adult three years ago.
We had a long, pleasant talk. We ended the call with this exchange:
I asked him if I should join the Navy or the Air Force... "Air Force!!!" he said (of course.)
I had no idea how much this man loved his granddaughter.
Upon his death, I was sent the contents of his wallet- every photo my mother had ever sent, he had kept with him all of those years.
I plan to join the Air/Space Force reserves here in Central Texas after this election cycle.
Grandpa is also the first soul memorialized in my sunflower garden.
Thank you for being my guardian angel- I love you Grandpa. I think of you every day and I owe my salvation to you. The weight of glory, you bore it with grace and traded your cross for a halo.
