Roy Anthony Cartier's Obituary
Roy Anthony Cartier passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in Mandeville, Louisiana at the age of 86. He was born on February 2, 1932 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Lucie Ann Marin Cartier and Simeon Pierre Cartier. He was married to his beloved wife, the late Ellen McCune Cartier, for 60 years.
Roy was the father of James L. Cartier (Michelle), Ronald D. Cartier, Patricia C. Raborn (Dean), Colleen A. Cartier, Daniel A. Cartier and Randall M. Cartier. Roy will be dearly missed by his seventeen grandchildren and his eight great grandchildren. He was the brother of Philip F. Cartier, Carol C. Schexnayder and Allan R. Cartier. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Graduate of St. Rose de Lima Grammar School and St. Aloysius High School class of 1950. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Civil Engineering in 1955. After graduating from LSU, he was employed by Burk, Lebreton and Lamantia Architects and Engineers as a Project Engineer. Performing design services for architectural and engineering projects. In 1963 he became associated with Rene A. Harris Engineers and Architects. He was a member of a team of engineers that performed design work for the Seabrook Bridge at New Orleans Lakefront. In 1968, he and Mr. Everett G. Roessle formed a corporation named Roessle and Cartier, Inc. (which later became Cartier and Associates, Inc.), a consulting engineering company. The firm did design work for projects in Jefferson Parish, the City of New Orleans, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, private developers, the City of Slidell, the City of Kenner and the City of Mandeville. He also served the cities of Kenner, Slidell and Mandeville as City Consulting Engineer. He is a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), receiving the grade of Fellow.
He loved family gatherings, especially New Year’s Day annual dinner at his house. He loved to travel in the United States as well as Europe, Mexico, cruises, etc. He loved spending time with children and grandchildren on the Tchefuncte River, water skiing and boat riding. He loved camping trips with family and friends, the annual Easter camping trips to Gulf State Park, and the annual Good Friday fish fry.
He was a member of a group of men called the TAJ that had a renovated barge outfitted for fishing and anchored at Port Eads. He worked hard and played hard. He loved his martinis and he loved to dance. Friends would tell him, “God is good to you”, and God was.
He loved his Catholic faith and attended daily 9 am Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville, Louisiana. After he retired, he was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was an usher at 7:30 am Sunday Mass and he had regular 3:00 am to 4:00 am every Wednesday morning at the Adoration Chapel.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte St., Mandeville, LA 70448 on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 12:00 Noon, with visitation at the church Monday beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Mandeville Cemetery Mausoleum.
