Rose Michelle Bernard's Obituary
Rose Michelle Bernard passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born in Lake Charles, LA on November 20, 1969. She graduated from Barbe High School, and then graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in accounting, where she met the love of her life, Joey. They were married on January 20, 1990. They settled in Mandeville, LA in 1995, and raised their children there for nearly 30 years.
Michelle was a fixture at the ballpark, making sure she attended every game possible for each of her five children. From little league through college, gamedays were sacred and nothing came before her kids. She was selfless, giving everything she had to her family and anyone else who needed it. She volunteered at her children’s schools and served on numerous boards such as Monteleone Junior High’s Marlin Athletic Booster Club and Lakeshore High’s Project Graduation.
Michelle was strong, competitive, and a fighter. She never wanted you to take it easy on her; whether it was on the pickleball court or around the family game table, she’d scold you if she thought you were holding back. She battled metastatic breast cancer since November 2020, but she didn’t let that define her or stop her from working, traveling, and showing up for her friends and family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Joey Frank Bernard; and her children, Jean Marie Bernard, Alexandra Anne Bernard, Jacob Joseph Bernard, Zachary Austin Bernard, and Nicholas Ryan Bernard. She is also survived by her half-siblings, her in-laws who felt like siblings, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Billie Jean Loftin Bennett and Javan Bennett.
The void Michelle leaves behind is vast, but she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in memory of Michelle may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center..
