Robert Merritt Petersen's Obituary
Robert Merritt Petersen died peacefully at his home December 1st, at the age of 75.
The son of the late Harluf Chester Petersen and Lucy Merritt Petersen was born in New Orleans.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elise (Weese) Hamilton Petersen, children Elise Petersen Dunbar (Bradun), Hans Petersen (Michele), grandchildren Megan Dunbar and Alexander Dunbar, his brother James Petersen (Betsy), and nephews William Petersen and Tom Petersen.
Robert graduated from New Orleans Academy and LSU where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He later received a Master’s degree in Education from Loyola University. He worked for Jasper Ewing & Sons, D&A Associates, and later formed Petersen Associates, a Publishers' Representative Company serving Louisiana and Mississippi.
Robert was a captain in the Army serving with the 1 / 141st Field Artillery as a Firing Battery Executive Officer and later as Battalion S4 with the 773rd Maintenance Battalion.
He enjoyed both fishing and the beach with friends and family at Perdido Key, Florida. He and friends traveled to the British Virgin Islands and rented both sail and power yachts, and traveled the ICC on Florida’s west coast in Grand Banks Trawlers. He and his wife often traveled to Greenville, SC, and Louisville, KY, to visit their daughter, son, and grandchildren.
He brightened many people’s lives by sharing his exuberant enjoyment of life and was a proud member of the FloraBama Yacht Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New Hampshire St. Covington, LA 70433.
Visitation will at the church on Monday will begin at 10:00 AM.
