Robert J. Koch was born May 24, 1925 in Picayune, Mississippi. He graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point on June 3, 1947, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Artillery. During his time at West Point Read Obituary
I was personal assistant to Gen. Koch in Viet Nam and at Ft. Sill, OK. I did have the opportunity to speak to him many years ago in New Orleans and just learned of his passing.
He was a man of integrity and I was honored to be a part of his career and family.
My prayers are with all that knew Gen. Koch and his family.

I met General Koch during his second Vietnam tour when he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Airmobile. I was a physician assigned to an artillery battalion miles from Camp Eagle. I had written a letter to President Nixon, and General Koch was called upon to adjust my attitude. He had a large office. I saluted, and he reached down and shook my hand. I was relieved that I would be talking to Robert Koch, the man, and not General Koch. He was gentlemanly and properly paternalistic, and I have not forgotten that. He did change my attitude, at least about General Koch. I am saddened to see that he died over one year ago. He must have told me he was an avid sailor because I remember that from out meeting.

Deepest Sympathy to the Koch Family, Please know my heart and prayers are with you at this sad time. I am honored to have know Bob for the past 15 years. On May 23rd he went to his heavenly home. A man of great honor to his family, country and friends. Thank you Mr. Koch for you military service and the freedom we all share today.
