Robert William Hazard, Sr.'s Obituary
Robert William Hazard, Sr. passed peacefully in his home in Covington on October 12, 2025. He was born on August 13, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to John J Hazard, II and Joyce Van Hazard. He graduated from St Aloysius High School and then Louisiana State University at New Orleans, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History. He then served in the United States Air Force as a 1st Lieutenant, commanding a hardened underground bunker in Arkansas, housing a 9 mega-Ton Titan II Missile Launch System until 1971. After his military service, he worked with his father at John J. Hazard Drayage and Construction Co Inc and continued to lead the company after his father’s death in 1987.
Bob had three children, Robert Jr. (Cherie), Dr. Elizabeth Fritz (William) and Mark (Stacy) with Michele Tiblier Hazard whom he married on May 23, 1970. Michele preceded Robert in death on August 21, 2005. He remarried on January 5, 2019, to Mary Steib Brunet, with whom he spent his last 8 years.
Bob was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and would tell you about them for as long as you would listen. They include Amelia Fritz (22), Reece Hazard (19), Joey Hazard (19), Annette Fritz (17), Haiden Hazard (16), Gage Hazard (13), Pier Hazard (12) & Matthew Hazard (8).
Bob/ Bobby was a bigger than life character. It was not unusual for him to be sitting with others, telling a good Cajun joke. He would always have a new culinary creation for you to try, whether you wanted to or not. His cooking escapades rarely disappointed though, much to the delight of family and friends. He greatly enjoyed entertaining, big or small. From the weekly Sunday dinner to Good Friday crawfish boils, everyone was welcome. He was also very proud of his beautiful Valencia orange tree and, once it started bearing fruit in the fall, he brought them to anyone and everyone. This is testament to Bobby’s generous, big-hearted soul.
Bob spent the last years of his life around family and friends always enjoying a good meal as well as donating to several Mississippi Gulf Coast Casinos.
