Rita Rogers Taylor's Obituary
Rita Rogers Taylor passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the age of 73. She was born on December 29, 1946 in Covington, LA to Aswell James Rogers and Lela Fay Magee Rogers.
Rita is survived by her children Eric Taylor (Adrianne), Brad Taylor (Amy) and Aimee Cowell (the late Donald “Don”); eight grandchildren Ashley, Mallory, Luke, Katie, Blake, Lane, Sarah, and Natalie; and one great-grandchild River. She is also survived by her sister Iris Rumick.
Rita is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Donald Melvin Taylor, her parents, her brother Gary Rogers, and her sister Marilyn R. Galloway.
Rita was a graduate of Covington High School, and later went on to obtain a degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern Louisiana University, as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a teacher at Fifth Ward Jr. High for 25 years, where she was loved and respected by all who knew her. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Baptist Church Road on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 2:30 PM with visitation at the church on Thursday beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the services in Barker McManus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Taylor may be made to New Zion Baptist Church.
