Richard Charles Weixel Jr.'s Obituary
Richard C. Weixel, Jr., age 78, entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. He was born on January 16, 1942, in New Orleans, LA to the late Richard C. Weixel and Mamie Bordonaro Weixel and resided in Mandeville, LA.
Richard was the beloved husband of Merlyn “Lyn” Collins Weixel. He was the loving father of Richard S. Weixel (Rosa) and Susan M. Weixel. Richard was the proud grandfather of Isaac Weixel, Elijah Weixel, Caleb Weixel, and Madison Wolcott. He was the brother of Carolyn Weixel Medley (Dale), Judy Weixel, and Leo L. Weixel. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends are survived.
Richard was a graduate of John McDonogh High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business at Southeastern Louisiana University. He held a LA state license as a commercial and residential Contractor and owned Richlyn Builders for many years before teaching his son Richard S. Weixel the family business, now renamed The Richlyn Group. Three Richards hold the legacy of the building business, and Isaac Weixel, first-born grandson, is continuing the path as a fourth generation builder.
Faith and family were at the top of the list for Richard’s priorities, as he practiced as a faithful Christian loving and serving his Savior. To family and friends, he was the life of the party, the one who brought so much laughter and joy. Some beloved titles for Richard include “Uncle Buck”, “Uncle Richie”, and “Richie Boy”. Compassion for family and friends, sense of humor, unconditional love, integrity, loyalty, and friendliness were like no other. There were no strangers to him, for he made conversations and formed lasting relationships with everyone he encountered. He was the most selfless and generous man, who would sacrifice to make someone’s life brighter and richer. When not with family, traveling across the globe exploring new adventures was his hobby. Richard was able to check off a seven- week European tour from his bucket list. The mountains in North Carolina and the cruise ship excursions were passions he enjoyed, as well. Antique cars, muscle cars, cruising the coast, and attending car shows brought joy to him. Going to Franco’s Athletic Club was one of Richard’s regular routines, where he would eat, drink, and enjoy quality time with the guys, which was more important than the actual exercise at the gym. His vitality and love for life will be greatly missed by all. He is reunited with his loved ones and with “Ya Ya,” his beloved pet Shih Tzu, which gives us comfort until we see him in eternal life.
