Richard Leighton Thompson passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 46. He was the son of William Goodwin Thompson, Sr (deceased) and Kathleen Childress Thompson.

Leighton grew up in New Orleans. He excelled in sports at an early age. When Leighton was 8 years old, he was one of 6 Louisiana boys invited to compete in a regional NCAA swim meet at Athens, Georgia. In high school, he also competed in basketball, football, soccer, and track. He attended several high schools, one being NOCA, where he studied art. While at NOCA, his artwork was selected by the local jeweler and metal sculptor, Thomas Mann, for an environmental research project. Leighton had several careers, but, his true niche was plumbing. He successfully owned a franchise with HOME360 as a master plumber. He raised his family in Springfield, close to the Tickfaw River. He loved being outdoors on the river fishing and being with family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
