Richard Hughes Lacoste's Obituary
Richard Hughes Lacoste passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the age of 85.
He was born February 6, 1929 in New Orleans, LA to the late Melville Klyle Lacoste and Claire Hughes Lacoste. He was the brother of the late Melville K. Lacoste, Jr. and his late wife Claire. Mr. Lacoste was a resident of Mandeville for the past 20 years.
He was married to his beloved wife of 65 years, Betty Silver Lacoste. They had two daughters, Cheryl L. Budd (Joseph) and Deborah L. Woods (Stephen). He will be dearly missed by his two grandsons, Patrick S. Woods (Dawn) and Ryan M. Woods (Bernadette). Richard was so very proud of his five great-grandchildren, Faith E. Woods, Kyla A. Woods, Calli P. Woods, Dayton L. Woods and Deegan R. Woods. He is also survived by his two brothers-in-law, Manuel J. Silver, Jr. (Jewell), Marvin G. Silver (Louise), Joan M. Silver and many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from St. Aloysius and attended Loyola and Tulane Universities. Mr. Lacoste was Manager of the Tubular Department of Standard Supply & Hdwe., Co., Inc. for over 50 years. He was a member of the National Association of Purchasing Management, Inc. (NAPM) which is now the Institute of Supply Management (ISM). He served in every office of the New Orleans Group and was appointed Membership Chair of District II, which is comprised of the States of Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
He received the NAPM New Orleans Emile M. Morvant award in 1978. Mr. Lacoste was the recipient of the District II NAPM Harold M. Cosgrove Award and in 1979 was elected National Vice President of District II, NAPM and served the National Association as a member of its Board of Directors, 1979-1980. Mr. Lacoste was National Membership Chairman NAPM in 1983 for 3 years. He also served as Chairman of the Association Permanent Conference Committee for many years. He also served as National Chairman of NAPM’s 85th Annual International Purchasing Conference in New Orleans in May of 2000.
Mr. Lacoste was also past president of the Propeller Club, Port of New Orleans. Upon his retirement, Mr. Lacoste became Regional Manager of Leadership Resources, Southeast Region.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM with visitation on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 AM.
