Richard John Desonier's Obituary
Richard John Desonier died on Saturday, August 14, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born on June 28, 1933 in Jeanerette, LA to Roland Desonier and Edna Miller Desonier. He was a resident of Covington, LA.
Richard is survived by his children, Dr. David Desonier (Michelle), James Michael Desonier and Kathryn Desonier Dabdoub; six grandchildren, Alex Desonier (Micah), Richie Desonier, Triche Chouest (Dino), Magdelen Desonier, Baileigh Dabdoub and Nikolas Dabdoub; and seven great grandchildren Emmaly, Mason, Maddox, Courtland, Makinlee, Jake, and Tucker. He is also survived by his sister, Penny Hoz and brother, David Desonier.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Quarles Desonier; parents Roland and Edna Desonier; siblings, Roland (Bubba) Desonier Jr., and Elizabeth (Libby) Womack; and grandson David Paul Desonier II.
He was a graduate of Morgan City High School and Louisiana State University where he was a proud member of the LSU football team. It was here where he met his wife, Shirley to whom he was married for 58 years. Upon graduation from LSU he became a captain in the US Army and as an officer he graduated from flight school and became a military pilot. After leaving the army he began his career in the petroleum industry which took his family and him to New Orleans, Singapore, Scotland, and Dubai. After retiring from the oilfield, he settled in Covington where he started a small business with a good friend, Dennis Allday.
Richard was a man of God taking pleasure in reading his Bible daily. He was considered a true gentleman and his integrity was well known by all of his friends and acquaintances. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather. Many memories were created at his home on the pond with his children and grandchildren fondly calling him Dandy. He will be missed!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home 2260 West 21st Avenue Covington, LA on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 12:00 PM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. A graveside military service will be held in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA immediately following the service.
