Rene Michael Gorrondona Jr.'s Obituary
Rene Michael Gorrondona, Jr., “Michael,” passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at his home in Covington, Louisiana. He was born on February 20, 1969, in Metairie, Louisiana where he grew up and lived for several years. He later resided in Baton Rouge for many years and moved to Covington in 2014. He received a Catholic education at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School and Archbishop Rummel High School. No matter what his profession, Michael always gave it his all. He worked in law enforcement at the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office and later at the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. While living in Baton Rouge, he also worked for Houston Armature Works. After moving to Covington, he worked with the Boilermakers Local 37 and more recent with the Pipefitters Local 568 Gulfport, MS.
Michael never met a stranger and entertained everyone with his sharp-wit and comical sense of humor. He developed a love of cars early in his childhood that lasted his entire life. He enjoyed playing pool and participated in many tournaments. Michael easily made friends everywhere he went and would help anyone in need at any time. His family came first, and he loved them fiercely. He loved and respected all animals and was quick to rescue any he saw in need, especially sharing a strong bond with his rescue dog Sadie.
Michael is survived by his beloved son, Blake Michael Gorrondona, loving mother Debbie Cerdes Popoff and father Rene M. Gorrondona, brothers Troy Gorrondona (Lisa) and Shane Gorrondona (Jeanne’), nephews Brandon, Devin, Zachary and Bryson Gorrondona, niece Kayla Gorrondona, great-niece Emma Gorrondona, sisters Hope Roberts and Regina Gorrondona, former wife Tina Albritton, and girlfriend Angel Landry. Michael is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who love and miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Dieter Popoff, and his grandparents Julius and Flora Cerdes and William and Thelma Gorrondona.
