Raymond Lewis Zornman Jr.'s Obituary
On March 19, 2024, Raymond L. Zornman Jr., loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 80 in his hometown of Abita Springs, LA. Ray was born June 24, 1943, at Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans, LA to Raymond (Sr.) and Genevieve O’Neill Zornman.
Ray graduated from St. Aloysius High School in 1961. He enlisted in the Army Federal Reserves, achieved the rank of E-6 Specialist, and earned the designation of Sharpshooter. Ray graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1970 and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Loyola Business School in 1977. He enjoyed a successful career in medical sales and management that spanned more than 40 years and allowed him to travel across the US and develop lifelong friendships. Chances are, if you were traveling to a city anywhere in the US, Ray could tell you where to get a great meal. Ray enjoyed traveling, especially a good road trip, and loved spending time with family and friends. He cherished a good conversation over a meal, with a Martini… preferably served with an olive and an onion, just like he liked them. From a young age, he had a love for trains. In retirement, Ray enjoyed traveling cross country by train, and even spent time as a docent for Amtrak. Ray attended retreats annually at Manresa House of Retreats with Group 10 for more than 40 years and served as a captain of the group for many years.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Carolina, his three children Gretchen Zornman (Rob Koch), Kristen Zornman, and Ray Zornman III (Liz), their mother Jeannette Rousseau, his stepdaughters Angela Fontenot (Ricky) and Nicole Montz (Carey), his sister Betty Pennison and brother Don Zornman (Cheryl), as well as his 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Raymond’s name to Manresa House of Retreats, 5858 LA-44, Convent, LA 70723, or Saint Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict, LA 70457.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow at the Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery, 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict, LA 70457.
