Raymond Glenn Winkler's Obituary
Raymond Glenn Winkler, age 76, of Abita Springs, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born on May 11, 1947, in Covington, Kentucky, to John and Elnora Winkler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gilbert and Elnora Louise Reel Winkler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ibis Emilia Leon Winkler; his children, Lauren Winkler Heisser (Patrick) and M Alé Sander (Gerald); his grandchildren, Emilia Heisser and Nathaniel Sander. He is also survived by his brother, Rick Winkler (Stephanie) and some nieces and nephews.
Following high school, Raymond decided to enlist in the U.S. Army and quickly found himself fighting in the Vietnam War. After leaving the military he was awarded a Purple Heart, which he humbly refused. For the remainder of his career Raymond worked his way up to being a ship master and sailed across the world, where he met the love of his life, Ibis. Raymond continued life as a Captain until he was no longer able, which led to him becoming a maritime instructor at Delgado Community College until retirement.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A graveside committal service will be held at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, Louisiana at 11:00 following visitation.
