Ray "Patt" Patterson Coward's Obituary
Ray Patterson Coward passed away peacefully on October 17, 2012. Born May 27, 1926 to Reverend Samuel Hartsfield Coward and Mabel Williams Coward. Beloved husband to Rachel Angel Coward. Brother to Samuel H. Coward, Jr. of Florida and the late Roderick W. Coward of North Carolina. Patt was extremely loving and proud of his three daughters, Penny Watts (Edward) of Metairie, Jan Slack of Covington, and Susan Kenney (Jim) of Houston. Grandfather to Cammy, Rachel, and Edward Watts, Allison and Mallory Slack, David and Patt Croft, and Stuart and Ann Kenney.
He attended Bob Jones University, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was the recipient of the Louisiana State Veterans Medal of Honor. Patt lived in N.C., Virginia, and Metairie, LA before retiring to Covington. His career was in the furniture industry but his passion was music as organist/choirmaster for many churches during his lifetime. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion Post 415 in Mandeville, and St. Timothy UMC in Mandeville.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 20th.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are welcomed to St. Timothy on the Northshore UMC, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, LA 70471.
