Peter Roman Shilay's Obituary
Peter Roman Shilay, age 76, passed away suddenly in the early morning hours on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
He is survived by his loving wife, Roxanne Becker Morgan Shilay, his brother, Nicolas Shilay and Nick’s three beautiful daughters and many grandchildren; his step-grandchild, Danielle Morgan-Perrine; and two sisters-in-law, Pamela Becker Stubbs and Megan Becker.
Attending graduation at St. Ambrose University, representatives of Stone and Webster Engineering offered him a position in accounting and he eventually worked his way to “Start-up Project Accountant”. This necessitated constantly relocating from one nuclear power plant site to another. It was in Baton Rouge that the handsome, but shy, Peter met Roxanne, his first and only love. She fell for him too. They courted, and when the Clinton Power Station was near completion, the kind, sweet 36 year old bachelor was leaving for his next assignment in Saudi Arabia! He proposed and she accepted. LOVE overcame leaving the USA and her engineering job with AT&T. So off they went to a really different “far off place”. What an adventure! Married in 1983, they had 40 years of love and caring. In 1996 they retired to a home in Covington Country Club Estates. Peter was able to play golf almost every day (his second love).
He was preceded in death by his father Roman Shilay (a 13 year old immigrant from Belarus); his mother, Stella Skoch (from Long Island, NY) and two sisters, Sonya Tzucanow and Alice Gellweiler.
“In the end only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you”.”-A Buddhist saying
A later memorial service will be private.
